Josep Carreras in an interview for Bild am Sonntag: "I will sing for 3, maybe 4 years more"

Key facts:

◦ In this month of August where, as I hope, most of you are on holidays, I would like to comment you a very interesting interview published in Bilt am Sonntag from the online german newspaper Bild.de, last August 12. Contents are very interesting, both on professional and private aspects of life. After describing his portrait, emphasising the contrast between his appearently weak aspect of his face with white hair, and the power of his voice and handshake, the article reported the conversation with the catalan tenor who showed himself to be happy to share his upcoming plans, especially about the new opera he is going to sing next year, writter by the viennese composer Christian Kolonovits, based on the Spanish Civil War. Carreras will probably perform it in front of the german audience too, as they know how to appreciate quality in music, as their musical history is so rich there. Always in Germany he had some misunderstanding with MDR which has produced the José Carreras Gala for 17 years: such ambiguous situation about the future of the Gala, which will be produced for the last time by MDR on December 13, annoyed Carreras who has been collecting 96 milions of Euro in the past editions, and hope to reach 100 milions this year. Still we don't know about the fiture of the Gala, especially about the new TV channel to produce it, anyway Josep Carreras would like the partnership with MDR to continue.
◦ As he declares to be a restless person, he fears the "last aria", his farewell to his profession, even though he is well aware that this moment is everytime closer. To tell that he will continue 10 years more would be too brave: he will go on until his voice works, but he realises in every performance that there is not much time left to say goodbye with dignity: three, maybe four years more. It will be so hard for him. What is to come wil be still based on discipline and passion, as in the "active part" of his life. He will certainly keep on his fight against cancer, and will take into serious consideration what a friend of his used to say "An hour a day, one day a week, at least one week in one year to be dedicated to himself and his dear ones": it's not alyays been like that to him.
◦ This could be the reason why, according to the journalist, his marriage with Jutta Jäger failed: he could certainly not stay long at home, but as he highlights, he had a wonderful time with Jutta, and they decide together to split up due to reasons involving them only. Still now that the divorce is completed, they keepgood contact by phone or they write each other. It's normal to wonder why it didn't work between them, but an adult can well understand that marriage is not easy, as all couples coping with problems of everyday life well know.
By the way, Josep Carreras with his 65 years of life experience, said that he's still open to what life will bring to him, and if there is also a new love, why not? He's curious about the future, aven though he's not looking for it at the moment.
◦ The best way to regain serenity after a hard working day is music, no matter the genre, or books: he mentions a funny reading of his. "The Centenarian who climbed out the window and desappeared" by Jonas Jonasson, while listening to the radio he appreciated a lot Adele, even though his favourite was Amy Winehouse: he judges her voice so honest and so special... what a pity that she lost the balle against herself. The las CD he bought is "The Best of Lang Lang", a fantastic pianist who plays in the same way other people can type on a computer keyboard.
◦ When he's been asked if it's true that musicians are also passionated lovers he answers, hoping to be exhaustive, that when he decides to do something, he always does it with all his heart, energy and passion.
